Unleashing Your Genius

Posted by on May 3rd, 2016

We all can unleash a genius that will sparkle if we let ourselves go.  If we don’t fall into the trap of playing by any set of rules then we can create something so unique that no one else possibly could have produced.  The key to this is by believing in oneself.    If you truly want to blaze a new path and create something that no one else ever has, you have to be able to reprogram everything you have ever known or were taught.  This is the door to genius.

I have always been a firm believer that if you want to be truly great at something you should survey the landscape, respect and understand your craft and its historical origins, master how it is done in its most evolved state; and then proceed to blow it up and reconstruct it with a generous helping of your own personality and experiences.  We all have this genius ability in us.  The only difference between those who achieve this and those that don’t is to have the map that will get you there.

The first step is to believe that you can be the best at something that is a deep passion of yours.  It is not good enough to just believe you can do well at something or be great at something.  You have to believe you can be the BEST!  This is not to say you should carry around arrogance.  This is simply to say that you believe that because you are immensely passionate in a given area of focus, will do the heavy lifting to know everything there is to know about that area of focus, and believe with the right road map that you will get there.

Consider this:

“We do not believe in ourselves until someone reveals that deep inside us something is valuable, worth listening to, worthy of our trust, sacred to our touch.  Once we believe in ourselves we can risk curiosity, wonder, spontaneous delight or any experience that reveals your human spirt.”  E. E. Cummings

Remember that one human being can accomplish what a monopoly of force through arms cannot.  Mahatma Gandhi reminded us that “No man can hurt me without my permission.”  This means that only you control everything inside of you.  One can use this idiom for many challenges in life.  For the purposes of this discussion it can be used as a way to empower and protect yourself from any consequences of perceived failure.  Stumbling upon winning or being number one at something almost never happens.  And even in the rarest of times that it does, one won’t be able to stumble upon it again consistently.  One has to believe in oneself and the successes will follow.

The next step is to thoroughly, at an expert level, understand the subject or activity you desire to be the best at.  Know it to the extent that you can teach it to others with ease.  Then proceed to obliterate everything you know about it.  Since you have accomplished the feat of believing in yourself already, you are now able to free your mind of the way things have always been done in order to do things not just better, but instead completely different.  It’s time to innovate.

The most impactful leaders innovate.  Not every leader will have the support of everyone but that doesn’t mean they are not leaders.  In fact many leaders run into tremendous resistance prior to reshaping the world around them.  So do not take resistance as an indication of anything other than perhaps you are on the right path towards reconstructing paradigms.  People with tremendous amounts of belief in themselves coupled with free thinking is what causes mind altering changes of thought and behaviour.

We all have passions inside of us.  Hopefully we are fortunate enough to be able to take part in a profession that is one of them.  If we are so lucky, then why not approach it with the belief in oneself that you can be the best at it.  That you can achieve more than just greatness.  That you can be number one!  At KSCA we practice the art of communication through public relations, investor relations, and social media.  We all have people around us that believe in us or we wouldn’t have gotten past the uniformed individual on the first floor.  Therefore, we should believe in our self to the extent that we can gain entry to suite #1.  The next steps are to know your craft inside and out, blow up the existing world of rules we have programmed ourselves to abide by, and recreate a new set of rules in our flavor.   Unleash your genius on a daily basis with even the smallest of activities and approaches, and you will soon be indispensable and number one at what you love to do.
